Why does the write command to EPCQ512A quad serial configuration devices fail when using Arria® V, Cyclone® V or Stratix® V devices ?

Environment

  • Intel® Quartus® Prime Standard Edition
  • BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
    Description

Due to a known problem with designs compiled in Intel Quartus® Prime software 16.1 update 1 or earlier, flash writes to EPCQ512A devices may fail when using the ASMI Parallel P or Remote Update IP for EPCQ device configured in QUAD mode, i.e. ASx4 mode.

This is because the opcode for EPCQ Extended Quad writes is generated incorrectly.

    Resolution

For designs compiled in Intel Quartus Prime software 16.1 update 1 or earlier, the write opcode needs to be changed to 38h.

This problem has been fixed in Intel Quartus Prime Standard version 16.1 update 2 and later.
