Why don't I see any difference in the transceiver Quartus II Power Play Power Analyzer results when I enable Adaptive Equalization on Stratix V GX/T and Arria V GZ devices?

Environment

BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Description

Due to a limitation of the Quartus® II software version 13.0sp1 and earlier, the Power Play Power Analyzer tool will not show any difference in the transceiver power results when you enable Adaptive Equalization (AEQ) on Stratix® V GX/T and Arria® V GZ devices.

Enabling AEQ in the transceiver reconfiguration controller MegaWizard™ will only enable the AEQ register space but will not switch on the AEQ engine. The AEQ block is switched on via user-control of the reconfiguration controller management interface at run-time. The Power Play Power Analyser will calculate the AEQ power based on the default run-time configuration which is "OFF".

Resolution

To calculate accurate power figures of the Stratix V GX/T and Arria V GZ AEQ block, you should use the latest version of the Early Power Estimator (EPE).

This limitation will be fixed in a future version of the Quartus II Power Play Power Analyzer.
