Steps to create a RAID array to install operating system (OS) using Intel® VROC SATA in Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) mode
The drives are not showing up in the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) after selecting the RAID type, and the option to create the RAID is not there, either.
To set the BIOS in UEFI mode, follow the steps below:
- Go to the BIOS.
Note It can be launched by pressing F2 during the Power-on self-test (POST).
- Go to Boot maintenance manager > Advanced boot options > Set the System to UEFI mode. Press F10 (Save changes and exit).
To create the RAID volume:
- Press F2 to enter BIOS.
- Go to the Advanced > Mass storage controller configuration.
- Select the desired controller:

- Set AHCI Capable (s)SATA Controller to RAID Mode and (s)SATA RAID Options to Intel (R) VROC (SATA RAID)
Note You may see Intel(R) RSTe instead of Intel(R) VROC (SATA) on older version of BIOS or Intel Server Products. See Intel® VROC vs. Previous Intel® RSTe: Name Change Explained for further details. - Press F10 (Save changes and exit).
- Boot to the BIOS once again.
- Go to Advanced > PCI Configuration > UEFI Option ROM Control.
- Scroll to the very bottom and select Intel(R) VROC SATA Controller.

Note Depending on the system configuration, you may also see Intel(R) Virtual RAID on CPU. Do not select this as this is for NVMe* RAID. - Select Create RAID Volume.
- Configure the RAID Volume as desired.
- Select Create Volume.
Driver installation
For supported Linux* distributions and versions, no manual driver installation is required as the driver is included in the OS image. Refer to the OS compability guide for Intel Server Products for a list of supported Linux OS.
For supported Windows* OS:
- Download the Windows Intel® VROC driver for your Intel® Server Products (Scroll to the bottom).
- Unzip the ZIP (compressed) file.
- Go to the F6-drivers in the extracted folder and copy the files under iaStorE.free.win8.64bit to a USB drive.
- Insert the USB drive with the drivers.
- In the screen where the partition needs to be selected, click Load drivers and select the files copied on step 3.
- Create the partition and continue with the installation process.
