Summary

What to do when the System Event Log (SEL) reports a power supply unit failure

Description

The System Event Log (SEL) would report this as follows:

{{{
4 | 06/21/2018 | 13:31:31 | Power Supply PSU 2 Status | Failure detected | Asserted
5 | 06/21/2018 | 13:31:33 | Power Supply PSU 1 Status | Failure detected | Asserted
}}}

The Sensor Data Record (SDR) would show the following events (the below are just examples how these would be reported):

PSU 1 Status | B6h | ok | 144.96 | Presence detected, Failure detected
PSU 2 Status | B7h | ok | 144.97 | Presence detected, Failure detected

Note: PSU stands for Power Supply Unit.

Resolution

If the system still boots up, proceed as follows:
1. Clear the event log.  For this, refer to the "Clearing the SEL Viewer Utility" section in the Intel System Event Log (SEL) Viewer Utility User Guide
2. Stress-test the node.

Otherwise, contact Support with the system event log* for diagnosis.
