Windows® 10 Update Guide for Intel® NUC Kit NUC5PGYH
Recommended method for applying the Windows® 10 Threshold 2 (TH2) update on your Intel® NUC Kit NUC5PGYH.
Requirements
- A separate computer connected to the Internet
- The Intel® NUC connected to the Internet
- USB Keyboard and Mouse
- USB flash drive or USB Hard Drive 64GB or greater

Step 1: Create Windows 10 Installer
- On a different computer, go to Get Windows 10 website.
- Under Using the media creation tool, select Upgrade to Windows 10 using the tool.
- Download the tool to create installation media on a USB flash drive.
- Run the tool.
- Prompts appear for several options during the media creation. We recommend the following choices on each screen:
- For the screen What do you want to do:
- Select Create installation media for another PC.
- For the screen below:
- Select your language, Windows 10, and 64-bit (x64).

- Select your language, Windows 10, and 64-bit (x64).
- For the screen below:
- Connect a USB flash drive with at least 3 GB free space. Select USB flash drive.

- Connect a USB flash drive with at least 3 GB free space. Select USB flash drive.
- For the screen What do you want to do:
Once the rest of the steps are finished, the media is created.
Step 2 (optional): Cleanup and Compress the Disk

Disk cleanup may free up space on the drive to prepare for the Windows 10 update. On the Intel NUC, right-click on Local Disk (C:) to get the following window.

The Windows* installer may compress the driver during the update. To reduce the update time, perform this step before starting the update. Select Compress this drive to save disk space and click Disk Cleanup.

After the Disk Cleanup Calculation finishes, in the next window, check all the boxes and click OK.

Select Delete Files.

After the files finish deleting, click OK on the Windows Properties window.

Select Apply changes to drive C:\, subfolders and files.

Click Continue.

Select Ignore All when an error pops.

You will know it's working if you get the following:

Note This process may take some time. Don't shut down the Intel NUC during this process.
Step 3: Installation
- Restart the Intel NUC and boot into Windows.
- Connect the USB flash drive to a USB port on the Intel NUC.
- Navigate to the USB flash drive.
- Double-click Setup.exe to start the installation.
- You will be prompted for several options during the installation process. We recommend the following choices on those screens:
Select Download and install updates (recommended). We recommend this option for the latest improvements to the update process based on the hardware detected.

At the Ready to install screen, the default setting is Keep personal files and apps. If you select any other option, you may lose all of your data and files.

The Intel NUC reboots several times during the update.
Note The progress of the update may appear slow, and there may be times where nothing is visible on the display.
Don't shut down the system during the update. The update may take several hours.
