Intel Announced Investment in NetPosa

On October 21, 2010, Intel announced its investment in and strategic business cooperation with NetPosa*, which is a leading digital video manufacturer in China specializing in the continuous research and development of core technology for video processing. NetPosa is committed to offering the integrated video surveillance application solutions and high-quality video storage products for industry users, carriers and enterprise users, and providing support for video applications in urban anti-terrorism and emergency response, Internet of Things, Digital City and Mobile Internet by means of the advanced video middleware technology. The investment as a part of the Intel Capital China Technology Fund II is to help NetPosa enhance its R&D, production capacity, gain more business opportunity.

Katsohirakis, vice president of the Software and Services Group, especially mentioned MeeGo,” Intel software platform supports devices connecting and compatibility well and MeeGo is the continuation of Intel’s Atom software strategy execution, it will provide exciting user interactions, better entertainment and more ways to mobilize via a rich Internet experience. Intel will deepen the cooperation with local enterprises, expedite innovation on software and hardware, and do a little bit to help China’s DSS industry.”
“NetPosa pioneers the DSS industry in China as an emerging leader in the past few years, supporting most major PRC events such as Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, Expo 2010 Shanghai and government projects such as ‘Safe City’ campaign,” said Liu Guang, CEO of NetPosa. ”NetPosa is the first manufacturer in China to launch IP-based NVR and VMS system based on IA. It’s a great beginning, the two parties will jointly promote the hardware and software innovation for DSS products and solutions based on Intel architecture (IA), i.e. Intel® Atom™ and Xeon® platforms, as well as MeeGo open source operating system. NetPosa will develop and optimize its new NVR, PVG and cloud storage products and solutions with Intel’s help.

“2010 SJTU-INTEL Transparent Computing and UEFI Technology Seminar” Opened in Shanghai

On October 21-22, “2010 SJTU-INTEL Transparent Computing and UEFI Technology Seminar” was hold at the academic activities center of Shanghai Jiaotong University to deepen the teachers’ understanding of transparent computing, UEFI and relative new technology, to promote colleges and universities teaching, research keeping pace with the development of newest technology. The technology seminar was jointly sponsored by School of Information Security Engineering of SJTU and Intel, as a platform for “industry, academy and research” to exchange their technology, many leaders and experts of government departments, CAE academician, university and industry technical experts was invited as speakers to exchange their views on transparent computing and the core technology of platform innovation. Leaders of SJTU, Bob Liang, general manager of Intel Software and Services Group in China, Jeff Griffen, Director of Platform Software Infrastructure, Intel Software and Services Group, made the opening speeches. Prof. Zhang Yaoxue, member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, a member and the Deputy Secretary-General of Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council (ADCSC) and the Director of the Office of ADCSC, Wei Dong, vice president of UEFI Forum, an HP outstanding science and technology experts, Honesty Young, Director of Intel Labs and Intel Chief Technology Officer, Liu Kehong, Chief Architect of Aspire Digital Technology Co., Ltd all did the presentations. There are nearly 60 people attending the seminar, and they have discussion about the future direction of technology development on combination of industry, academy and research, covering transparent computing and cloud computing OS, the advance in UEFI, Intel’s innovative technology, mobile web, and Industry alliance. They also shared and explored in transparent computing and cloud computing, core technology innovation of UEFI and the future relationship between industry and industry alliance and its development.
The innovation and development of new technology such as transparent computing, cloud computing, trusted computing and mobile web has became the core promoting the independent innovation and upgrade of electronic information industry. Transparent Computing, as a leading computing concept and innovative technology relying on the networks to achieve pervasive computing, has the outstanding advantages of low cost, manageable, high security, high reliability and is an important direction of cloud computing. The idea raised in transparent computing about opening the interface of underlying board and different operating systems has consistency and complementarities with the thought of BIOS opening proposed by UEFI. The latter is developed by Intel, which defines a new model for the interface between personal-computer operating systems and platform firmware, has got widespread support and application and provides a solid foundation for the realization of transparent computing.

Intel Campus Lecture Kick off in Tsinghua University

On October 12, 2010, in this harvest season, Intel senior strategic managers, system architect, HR managers and the managers from high education team went into Tsinghua University, brought students a MeeGo feast in multi-function hall of Information Science and Technology Building (FIT Building).
At 7:00 P.M, Intel's senior strategic manager Chen Xu, senior strategic manager of Intel, opened the prelude of this campus lecture, who is in charge of relevant marketing activities of Intel®Atom™-based OS. From 1995, he has worked for the open source community of China, as the main founder of Linuxpk.com (Linux).He took the students into the MeeGo's world, from the architecture to the development environments and tools, from the unique personality to a great user experience. Chen Xu shared the Intel's open-source software strategy, the formation of open-source software development team, the experience of the management of open-source community with the students in 45-minute speech.
Then, another senior manager of Intel, system architecture experts from the Ministry of the digital home, Edwin Song shared with students the multi-application supporting framework of consumer electronics, the challenges and innovations based on the opening platform of Intel CE Media SOC. With the multi-functional of consumer electronics, how to provide the maximum flexibility to design a product which lines with consumer's habits seem to be a research direction. One side from the traditional PC architecture, the other side driving for consumer electronics applications and promote the era of intelligent television. Edwin Introduced that the framework will support the applications which based on Yahoo ® Widget Channel*, Adobe ® Flash*, Adobe AIR*, Google Android*, Sun Java*, WES7* and other frameworks.
The campus lecture of this year is ongoing, we will go to Beijing University, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, Sichuan University, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Southwest Jiaotong University, bring the students the story behind MeeGo and opportunities of experiment with the latest MeeGo.
